Co-joined Workshop by Sergei Komarov and Lidiia Griaznova (CAA) & Anton Shchegolev and Alex Kayner (SEC) on Sound in Contemporary Art and Beyond

This workshop explores sound as an artistic medium at the intersection of various disciplines. Depending on participants' interests, we will examine case studies that highlight sound as a structurally significant element of an artwork, shaping perceptions of space, time, and narrative. We will also discuss how its perception is influenced by physical, institutional, and political contexts.

Another part of the workshop will include a practical session where participants can explore various techniques for creating sound. We will examine how sound compositions affect spatial perception and human interaction. Participants will also receive a reference list for further independent study, expanding their understanding of sound’s potential in contemporary art and beyond.

Études Lab #1 organized by hosq is an experimental laboratory for sound artists, choreographers, and visual artists to collaborate and create. Over three days, participants will develop an audio-visual performance. The lab focuses on the intersection of disciplines, encouraging experimentation and new approaches to collective creativity. Participants will bring their ideas to life through collaboration, with the final works combining into a single piece that will receive a grant for further development and touring.
