Subtropics 2025 Marathon Festival
Curated by composer, artist, and longtime CYLAND collaborator Gustavo Matamoros, this four-day, multi-venue event brings together a vibrant constellation of international and local artists working across sound, video, performance, and installation. In 2025, the Subtropics Marathon Festival will pay tribute to Florida-based composer Francis Schwartz—an esteemed avant-garde icon with an international reputation spanning several decades.
The Marathon will highlight works by numerous Subtropics artists based in South Florida. It opens on Thursday, September 25, with the unveiling of Quail Roost Sanctuary—a newly commissioned outdoor sound installation that transforms public space into a permanent listening environment in South Dade.
On Friday, September 26 (9–11 pm), audiences move north to The Bridge in Allapattah for Soundologia, an evening of curated audio works presented in an acoustically treated listening space.
The festival culminates on Saturday and Sunday, September 27–28, with two evenings of fixed media and live performances (4–10 pm) at The Deering Estate Theater in Palmetto Bay. These programs will feature world premieres, immersive surround-sound works, and performances by artists from Miami and beyond.
Featured participants include CYLAND Foundation CEO and Chief Curator Anna Frants, as well as Alba Triana and Jose Hernandez Sanchez, both of whom recently took part in the latest edition of CYFEST.
All events are free and open to the public with R.S.V.P.
