May 29–30, 2026, Montalcino, Italy

Within Eroica Montalcino, CYLAND MediaArtLab presents Symphony for 2 Bicycles, a live audiovisual performance by Alexey Grachev and Aleksandr Bochkov, and Matvei Peshkov. The performance will take place on May 29 at 6:30 PM and May 30 at 11:30 AM at Piazza del Popolo within the Eroica Montalcino Festival program.
This site-specific work approaches cycling as both instrument and system. Two performers ride stationary bicycles connected to a custom digital interface, where pedaling cadence directly shapes sound and visual output. Variations in speed and effort generate rhythm, texture, and intensity, creating a continuously evolving audiovisual composition in real time.
Structured as a dialogue between two riders, the performance explores synchronization, pacing, and response. One performer introduces rhythmic or tonal patterns, while the other mirrors, transforms, or disrupts them. Moments of alignment and divergence become the core compositional elements, producing an immersive interplay of motion, sound, and image. Developed as a site-responsive project, each presentation adapts to its environment, with the Montalcino edition shaped by the atmosphere and landscape of Tuscany’s cycling culture.
Eroica Montalcino is a historic cycle race on dirt roads that takes place along the enchanting 209 km route of L’Eroica, south of Siena through the landscapes of Val d’Arbia, Crete Senesi, and Val d’Orcia. The event celebrates the heritage of cycling on Italy’s historic strade bianche, bringing together tradition, endurance, and contemporary cycling culture.
